The Housatonic Series

I grew up in rural Northwestern Connecticut where my family's home was adjacent to the Housatonic River. This river runs from Northern Massachusetts all the way south to the Long Island Sound and could be a fast-moving creek or a wide deep lake depending on where you entered the water. Throughout my youth, I spent many days and nights within its various tributaries with friends and alone. All of the works named after this river were composed as an adult painter well after I left this region but the Housatonic River always remained a personal symbol of beauty, fear, isolation, and peace. These symbols remain as persistent ingredients in many of my compositions..
