The Urban Districts Series - 2003-2012
The Urban Districts series were motivated by pasting various printed images onto a canvas. These pasted images, of no particular subject, were then covered with a transparent medium to function as a suggestive or vague background. This background provided a type of neglected billboard to paint on thus allowing more abstract imagery to be executed. Very often these images become more subtle or are completely negated giving way to a layered mesh of line and color. There were no predetermined themes or subjects in these paintings and have been developed over ten years starting in 2003 and have all been named after cities or districts around our globe only after the paintings are completed. This series became a study in composition and surface modulation.
